Contemporary Country Garden, Buckinghamshire

The client wanted a contemporary garden that felt like a natural extension of their home. The outdoor space needed to reflect the sophisticated interior of this modern country house, set within an acre of land.

The existing garden was mainly laid to lawn, with only a few established trees, offering little invitation to spend time outdoors.

Planting was a key focus for this garden. With its countryside location and views, the design introduced curved planting beds mimicking the lines of the surrounding natural landscape, adding interest and a sense of flow. White Hydrangea 'Annabelle’ lines the new gravel pathway, leading through a series of square metal arches adorned with clematis.

The large feature Corten Steel water table creates a sense of tranquility when sitting on the paved terrace.

A new herringbone brick pathway leads you from the terrace, through the garden, directly to a re-sited gate and the paddocks beyond (ideal for walking the dogs). The central Pots of Pithoi water feature is framed by planting.

This project was a co-design in partnership with Kathryn Hibbard at 12 Garden Designs.
